Kris loves a good jam spread and it’s not always easy to find packaged jams without tons of added sugars and preservatives. When I do find better options to purchase, the taste and texture is generally not the best, so I decided to make my own! The magic ingredient here are chia seeds. Chia seeds thicken the jam, perfectly giving the jam that “jam” texture. I sweetened mine, but you can also not sweeten yours at all since the fruits generally are pretty sweet on their own… Especially strawberries.
Strawberry Chia Seed Jam
Servings 1 .5 Cups
Equipment
- Pot
- Canning Jar
Ingredients
- 5 cups frozen organic strawberries can use any other berry as well
- 5 tbsp chia seeds
- 2 tbsp lemon
- 2 tbsp maple syrup
Instructions
- Heat fruit in a pot over medium - high heat, stirring occasionally, until the fruit is heated through and begins to break down and bubble.
- Use a spoon or potato masher to mash the fruit to your desired consistency…. I actually used my immersion blender and it worked well.
- Stir in the chia seeds and lemon juice until combined. Then taste and stir in 1 or 2 tbs sweetener if needed.
- Remove from heat and let cool for 5 minutes. The jam will thicken considerably as it cools.
- Give the jam one final good stir. Then serve immediately, or transfer to a sealed container and refrigerate for up to 1 week or freeze for up to 3 months
Notes
This is the perfect berry jam that you can feel good about eating! It takes very little time and effort and lasts for a long time! This is great to serve for brunch or to bring as hostess gift when invited to someone home for brunch.
