It’s been a crazy year talking about and living in nothing but sweatpants. My nightmare realized… kidding. (sort of)
I believe I’ve become an expert at answering that age old question of “what do I wear?” As a fashion editor, I may not wear every trend but I’m aware of them and what people will get excited about. With the world slowly reopening, the daily question posed is “What do I wear to x ?”
I took to my IG saves to get inspired. Scroll down for a list of looks that will get you in the mood to get dressed up again!
The Slip Dress
I’m obsessed with a good satin slip dress and I’ll truly re-up on one every Summer. Balanced with a faux leather jacket and sandals, it’s the perfect look for when you’re not sure your low-key lunch might turn into dinner and drinks into dusk.
Flare Denim
These flare jeans with side slits (Rocky Barnes wearing them above) from Zara fit like a dream. For your first date IRL, wear these back to a racerback tank and heels paired with a small bag. The flare is going to make a comeback in a major way this Fall and I highly recommend getting on them before the masses.
The Relaxed Shirt
The styling options with this relaxed shirt are endless. It’s been my go-to lately for when I need to pop back into the office. The open collar gives way for layering necklaces and the loose fit makes it comfortable and easy to wear. Style with black jeans or even over leggings and sandals for a weekend look.
Sporty Cut Outs
I’m a sucker for a well constructed piece of clothing that will hug you and flatter in all the right places. This midi dress from Line by K is has a one shoulder neckline and cutouts on the back that makes for a great date night look in sandals or heels
Itty Bitty Tops
Friends has a reunion special and Bennifer is a thing again. The noughties have made an obvious comeback and so has the fashion. Tiny, stringy tops in satin worn back to distressed wide leg denim is a tried and true Summer look you’ll love.
Poplin Sets
This tan set is rich and lightweight for unbearably hot summer days where you still want to look good. Ideal for shopping in the city or lunch with the girls you haven’t seen in ages. Wear the matching skirt back to the off the shoulder matching top or break apart for endless styling possibilities.
Athleisure Looks
Sweat sets are not dead yet. I feel very strongly that anything Princess Diana wore will always ring timeless. I love a short set in a pop color or neutral tone for grabbing coffee with a friend. If you can no longer look at fleece, opt for a seamless romper and open shirt combo.
Kick it In Neutral
Not only are wide leg pants universally flattering, they are equally cool and polished for any occasion from meetings to a summer date night on a terrace.
The Slip Skirt
A summer favourite I still find to be timeless yet always on trend is the combo of a slip skirt and white tee shirt. I have tired and worn A LOT of t-shirts and my favourite white tee to date is a Hanes Men’s tee. The fit is just loose enough yet fitted in the right places that I’ve never gotten sick of it.
Borrowed from the Boys
The suit vest or waistcoat is popping up all over my favourite IT girls and I can’t wait to wear it with a wide leg pant or jeans when we can finally get to be in a restaurant again!
