When I got Maca a few months ago I didn’t realize how many things I would actually need to be set up for her arrival. Thankfully with the help of this community and friends I got it together quickly! to me these are kind of the basics that you need to be properly set up for a puppy! These are also the items I love for my dog! We will continue adding to this list as time goes on.
Crate
I chose to crate train my dog. Otherwise I would be too worried she would chew all the wires in my house or get herself into danger. They learn to love their cages quickly. If your dog is small you will want to get a separator to keep their space small and then you can adjust the size!
Dog Bed
Maca loves this bed. They say it’s an anti anxiety bed because of the material in the way that it hugs them! it’s also machine washable.
Toy Basket
As I’m sure you can imagine my dog is quite spoiled and overtime I purchased her many toys it’s great to have a basket for the toys to keep things organized and in one place.
Baby Gate/ Doggy Gate
Depending on the layout of your space it’s really hopeful to be able to section off a room that you can puppy proof and where are you can leave your dog when you’re not able to have all eyes on them. this one’s great because it doesn’t require you screwing it into the wall.
Brain Games
Let’s face it having a puppy can get quite tiring these brain games are great because it keeps them busy and it also exercises their brains and tires them out… and gives you a little break!
Bully Sticks
These are my favourite to give my dog she’ll chew them all day it’s good for their gums and better than plastic toys.
Waterproof Pet Food Mat
This is really helpful to have for their food and water bowls so that it doesn’t get onto your floors or carpet‘s.
Blanket
I have a few of these, I will use them on my couch, in her cage and even to carry her on colder days.
Snuggle Puppy
I use this for the first few weeks when I got Maca, it’s a stuffed animal that has a “heart beat” this is comforting for puppies since they’re used to being with their Mom and rest of the litter.
Beef Liver Treats
There’s tons of great treats out there these ones are just really easy on there only one ingredient. you can break them up into small pieces for all your potty training etc. it’s also great that they are freeze dried instead of dehydrated so that they don’t dehydrate your dog.
Harness
There are many out there this is just the one that I ended up buying and I really love it it’s easy to slide on and off of her and it’s super cute also.
Travel Bottle
This is great if you’re picking up your puppy somewhere long distance or if you plan on taking walks because it’s a portable water bottle that doesn’t spell I love it and use it all the time.
Leash
When they’re small it’s good to have something thin and light and that doesn’t tug too much at their neck this was recommended to me by my dog trainer and it’s worked well.
Collar
Any collar will do but it is important to have them wear a collar and get a ID tag just in case they slip away. I like a collar that is super easy to open and close.
Toys
There are so many but my dog really loves this brand every time I get her one she really enjoys it. we also play catch with them!
Dog Seatbelt
This was one of the best recommendations ever you attach this into your seatbelt and onto the dogs harness it’s inexpensive and they do not cry!
Earth Rated wipes
Trust me on this and just stock up on these they’re great to clean the face, tear ducks, dirty paws or anything else.
Earth Rated Poop Bags
Because you don’t wanna be the person that doesn’t pick up their dogs poop! Earth rated makes the best poop bags and they have dispensers as well.
Brush
Depending on what type of hair your dog has it’s important to brush the dogs hair daily so it doesn’t get nodded and obviously aesthetic purposes as well!
Urine Destroyer
There will be accidents it’s great to have a spray like this because it really breaks down the scent and doesn’t encourage your dog to go back and keep doing it.
