I’ve come back to this article five times this week. Each time because I got a news update about Covid. And each time, I altered a look and a situation accordingly. If there is one thing that has been consistent in 2021, it’s how everything is always changing. While we’ve adapted to what to wear in a hybrid working environment and celebrated the change of seasons with fashion, I’d love to say this New Year’s looks like one we are familiar with. As this is not the reality, I’ve put together looks that can be dawned on a dancefloor or dancing around your living room as the ball drops on a very tumultuous year. I encourage you to bookmark these because from Sunday to Saturday, things can change in an instant and you’ll want to make sure you have a look prepared for wherever, however you celebrate.
Have a happy new year, x
If you’ll be watching the ball drop at home, I believe it’s still important to show up for the last few hours of the year in a fit that makes you feel optimistic for a new chapter and pride to have looking back on the year that was. I’ve become obsessed with this new sweater brand called Ruve. They have this gorgeous creamy frayed sweater that would be perfect with a high waisted legging or even a slip skirt to lounge around in.
For a more accessible option, H&M always comes through with true basic sweaters like this white turtleneck.
Should the mood strike you to run over to a friend’s place as Carrie did with Miranda in the first Sex and the City movie, this slate grey wool coat from Frankie Shop is an essential layer to enhance an all winter white look. *Cue the dramatic snowfall.*
If plans call for being out at dinner with friends, the trick to get dressed here is to decide on one statement moment in your look. Feathery top or bright pink shoe? By choosing one stand out piece, your look will not only evoke an effortless festive feel but you’ll get these pieces working overtime in the new year.
I love how Amy styled the purple marble mini skirt with a crisp white blouse and sandal as it’s the perfect balance of sexy and chic. This is a perfect example of how you can reinvent styling these pieces next year for another event.
Skims made this gorgeous form fitting maxi dress that looks ideal to lounge out in or styled with a knee high boot for dinner. Toughen it up with a leather jacket and layer necklaces for a tried and true look. The Australian brand Diish has the same concept in mind but developed their version in a strapless cut as seen on Fern.
I’m obsessed with feathers at the moment and these mules from Zara are calling my name. Any of the above mentioned looks could use a little drama like this south of the ankle.
If being out dancing is your thing, I hope you can have that chance this year and to do so in a fabulous outfit. When you’re leaning into textures like sequins, remember to keep shapes loose and away from the body so as to move with ease.
If you’re looking for a bodycon moment, the KGMTL x DYNAMITE NYE EDIT has the perfect all over lace catsuit look. Layer a bodysuit underneath with an oversized blazer over the shoulders.
To complete this roundup of NYE looks, I’ve shared that the jeweled bra top is an IT piece this season. I love seeing it come out in all sorts of bold ways. Below, Alexa Jade is wearing a vintage find that is giving major Madonna energy. Another option I implore you to try is this rhinestone crop top.
