When it comes to good overall health, skin, mood and vitality sleep is up there as one of the most important factors. I personally have been fortunate, for the most part in the sleep department. I fall asleep pretty quickly and have restful, uninterrupted full nights of sleep (for now anyway… one day I know that will all be taken away from me when I have kids.) There have been times in my life when my sleep cycles weren’t as great, and as usual I did my research and found the best natural remedies!

Before getting into my tips, it’s important to mention that overall lifestyle has a huge impact on sleep. Eating whole, real foods and limiting processed foods is an important factor. As well as movement, fresh air and stress management. We will get more into stress management in future articles!

Sleep Sprays
Until 2 years ago I never knew these existed and let me tell you… they work!! I have only tried a few but a couple sprays on your pillow and around your bed and you are knocked out for the night. I have shared this tip with many of my friends and followers and have heard incredible results.
Magnesium & Melatonin Supplements
Magnesium is an important mineral involved in hundreds of processes in the body. It’s very important for brain and nervous system function. Magnesium helps quiet the mind and body, making it easier to fall asleep. Magnesium has the ability to regulate the production of melatonin which is a hormone that helps guide the body’s sleep cycle.
Melatonin is a hormone whose cycle of production and release is influenced by time of day, melatonin levels naturally rise in the evening and fall in the morning. For this reason, melatonin supplements have become a popular sleeping aid, particularly in instances where the melatonin cycle is disrupted, like from travel and jet lag. Melatonin may improve overall sleep quality in individuals suffering from sleep disorders. Specifically, melatonin appears to reduce the time people need to fall asleep and increase the total amount of sleep time.
Essential Oils
There are tons of great blends on the market that you can add into a diffuser or even under your feet, onto your chest or simply rub in between your palms and inhale. Some popular ones, and ones I tend to reach for are lavender, neroli and rose. I have linked them below.
Going on Airplane Mode
We are a generation that is overly connected and staring at a screen almost always. Between our phones, tablets, televisions and computers it’s so important to make it a point to shut down and disconnect. I turn my phone on airplane mode by 8pm nightly and this actually helps me have a more restful and deeper sleep.
Herbal Teas
Tea’s have so many incredible benefits, especially when it comes to sleep. Herbs have been used in Chinese and Ayurvedic medicine as health remedies for centuries and are extremely powerful. Yogi brand has a bunch of great calming, sleepy time tea blends that really do help with sleep.
Ashwagandha
I have covered the miracle adaptogen ashwagandha in my adaptogens article but this herb is excellent for lowering cortisol levels (stress hormone) and by adding this to your daily routine it can really help you sleep better and stay calm!
I could go on and on but these are the remedies that helped me the most! I would love to hear your sleep remedies and what has helped you get a better night’s rest! Like I mentioned earlier the best anti aging, beauty and wellness secret of all is a good night’s sleep so try these out and let me know if they help!
