What to Wear: Spring Trends That Last by Chanel Vincelli

It has been a wild start to the year in the style space. We’ve seen a rather wide swing of the pendulum when it comes to trends in the mere first 2 months of 2022. (See, Miu Miu super mini skirt mani & Josh Safdie’s muse in uncut gehms dominating fashion week) As extreme as it was, I remembered self-expression had been stifled in the last couple years and what was coming out in the shows and street style would inspire us and if not, atleast get us talking about other things than the news.

When I came to write this article I did not want to give another trend reel. In fact, I don’t even believe trends to be popular anymore as they come to be and die within days. Once upon a time, trends had a minimum of 1-3 seasons of staying power. This gave us enough time to actually decide if we liked it, bought it, and wore it more than twice.

As the first day of Spring is quickly upon us, I’ve compiled 4 wardrobe must-haves that you’ll get excited to wear, will feel fresh your outfit rotation and you’ll be able to keep in your wardrobe for time to come.

Precious Cargo

I remember first spotting the army print cargo on Gilda Ambrosio, and most recently on Kourtney when blending into Kravis. The low slung pants have been trying to creep back into fashion for the last 2+years. This time, we’re finally seeing it in a strong day to night way on the likes of Hailey Bieber and my girl crush Tina Kunakey. In my opinion, this utility pant is the definition of effortless dressing. My favorite find so far are these white Zara cargo pants.

Life in Technicolor

The color pink can be many things but it is always both bold yet soft, all at once. That’s why the Creative Director at Valentino crafted his entire Fall 2022 show around this iconic color. And why the Jacquemus barely-there cardigan went viral last year. This charming shade leads the pack of jewel tone colors to wear this Spring. My style tip is to mix it with black to ground the look or try wearing it head to toe.

Prep School

If the menswear inspired shirt was a person, they’d be the one you call “wise beyond their years” or “full of wisdom” because it’s had many lives. This versatile piece pairs perfectly with a cargo pant, half tucked into your favorite jeans or even a pink mini skirt and an oversized blazer. The contrast of the menswear stripe and relaxed fit is always smart and stylish. It’s no wonder Anine Bing’s Spring Campaign features the crisp white hero shirt on Irina Shayk styled à la Danny Zucko with a popped collar. For a heavier weight during these transitional weeks, a polo sweater reminiscent of Princess Diana in a vertical stripe adds a touch of prep to even the simplest jeans and sneaker look.

Top Layer

The weather is still changing and an overpiece is absolutely essential. In anticipation of the Matrix movie release this year, channel Neo in this faux leather trench coat from Dynamite. For a more classic take, this khaki trench coat from Only has a great relaxed fit and midi length. Moto jackets won’t be going anywhere any time soon and never fail to solve the age old question of what to wear. This oversized Mackage moto jacket is absolutely divine and simply craves a white tee and jeans for the chicest look ever.

I am an editor, creative pragmatist, and visual storyteller who solves problems. Not creating, is utter devastation. I've inherently always made things, people look and feel good whether it's through mediums such as fashion, art, imagery, story telling. I'm obsessed with beauty and in Valentino's words "I love beauty. It's not my fault" I knew where I could not stand to be, and what I did not want to do, and that led me to the work I love.
