Purchase or Pass: January 2023 Reviews

I buy, receive and try a lot of different things in the course of a month. Probably more than most people you know and definitely more than is necessary. However, it is my job to know what’s going on in the world of wellness, beauty and fashion and I’m here for it!

We decided it was time to do a monthly review series, where I round up the things I have been gifted, purchased and tried within that month and let you know what’s worth trying and purchasing and what you should pass on. We would love your feedback on products and items you have been wanting reviewed. Please leave your suggestions in the comment section down below and we will be sure to test them out for you!

Fenty Plush Puddin’ Intensive Recovery Lip Mask

I’m always looking for a great lip mask to use before bed. I am not the biggest Fenty skin or makeup lover but this looked promising. This product is made with ingredients like castor oil, coconut oil, pomegranate and jojoba oils which all work great to soothe, plump and hydrate. I have been using nightly for the last few weeks and really like this product. I think it’s a great addition to your bedtime routine, it’s very thick, I wouldn’t recommend it for daytime use. Will definitely continue using it! Great for dry winter months. I don’t love the packaging though, it’s cute but not the most functional and I find myself wasting product.

ISDIN ERYFOTONA AGELESS TINTED MINERAL SUNSCREEN SPF 50

You guys already know I am always trying new mineral sunscreens, even though I have many I love and use, I always like knowing if there is something even better and what’s out there. I picked this one up at Remedy Spa in New York back in December and have been using a few times a week since. Immediately I loved the texture, compared to other mineral sunscreens this one is very lightweight and a thin consistency but then gives full, even and even moisturizing coverage. The tint is universal, meaning it can be used for a variety of skin types and blend perfectly into skin. It has a  silky formula and  contains naturally-derived photolyase enzymes, known as DNA Repairsomes that correct past photodamage, reducing wrinkles and dark spots caused by environmental exposure. It’s in my top 3 best and most used sunscreens, I already restocked my next bottle.  This formula would be great for those with oily skin who find other mineral SPFs too rich.

RATING: 5/5

OleHenrikson Dewtopia 5% AHA Firming Night Crème

I was definitely influenced on this one. I know many people claim to love Ole Henrickson but most of the products I try fall very flat for me, so I’m not one to run and buy their latest launches. However, a lot of beauty influencers I follow and trust were raving about this new cream so I ordered it. I used it for almost 2 weeks to give it an honest try. I used it as the last step in my nighttime routine and while I did find my glow to be nice in the morning it doesn’t even come close or compare to the January Labs Retexturizing Night cream. For that reason it’s just okay and the ingredients aren’t clean so I would just rather put my money and skin in the hands of a better product that does something similar.

RATING: 3/5

The Crown Affair Renewal Mask

I am a fan of The Crown Affair, they make solid hair care that has non toxic ingredients. I have tried most of the line but never the mask. I have been using it in my rotation over the last 2 months and think it’s a good, easy moisturizing mask.  Not too thick and doesn’t weigh down the hair, I am not overly blown away at the way my hair looks and styles post use, but I do think it does the trick and smells delish!

RATING: 4/5

Sunday Riley B Nice Niacinamide Serum

Anytime I see Niacinamide as the main ingredient in a skincare product I almost always have to try it. Niacinamide is one of those ingredients that my skin loves and works wonders for me. With that being said, not all products containing it are made equal. I have always liked Sunday Riley so this excited me.. I have been incorporating into my routine for a few weeks and don’t notice much of a change. I do feel my skin is bright, hydrated and tight but I’m not sure it’s due to the addition of this product. I am happy to keep using/ trying but will not be repurchasing.

RATING: 3/5

Rhode BRC

I have never been asked to review a skincare brand more than Rhode, I have given a little first impression and initial thoughts on my IG stories but I can finally give my whole thoughts on this line. The BRC is okay, its not anything to write home about or rave about. It’s a pretty simple, straight forward daily moisturizer. It’s most definitely not what Hailey Beiber is using to get her skin to look the way it does but for the price point its a decent option. The ingredients matter most to me when it comes to taking care of my skin. The Barrier Restore Cream does include some great skin care ingredients, like a variety of peptides and a few other actives like Niacinamide. But besides that, this is a very standard water, glycerin, coconut oil (Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride) base. And these first ingredients make up more than 90% of the formula so it’s really nothing special or different. For me its a pass.

RATING: 3/5

Rhode Peptide Glazing fluid

This serum I was more interested in trying because when Hailey applies it, it looks like it’s super dewy and plumping… it’s not. It actually feels very cheap, drugstore like quality and consistency, even down to the packaging that feels very low quality. I don’t find this serum does much and doesn’t enhance the glow of the skin nicely. Again, not impressed at all by this product or the entire line to be up front and doubt she actually even uses her own stuff. Price point is very reasonable and matches the contents of what’s inside the bottles so I guess from that perspective it’s good.

RATING: 2/5
