GLW Stories: PCOS

We wanted to create a series where we share our subscriber’s stories. It’s important to talk about what we’re experiencing as it may help someone else. These topics of conversation are often labelled as “taboo” or aren’t even spoken about. We need to change that cycle and share our stories. This is a safe space where everyone in the community can share and ask questions.

First up is: PCOS

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a hormonal disorder common among women of reproductive age. Women with PCOS may have infrequent or prolonged menstrual periods or excess male hormone (androgen) levels. The ovaries may develop numerous small collections of fluid (follicles) and fail to regularly release eggs.

We reached out to the GLW community and asked the subscribers to send in their stories. Everyone’s story is different and everyone’s story is important. We’re so grateful to have this community built full of love and mutual respect.

Here’s a story from subscriber Olivia Sipler.

Hi KG and GLW team!

My names Olivia I’ve been following KG from the US for years and she has helped me so much! I saw her asking about Endometriosis and PCOS contributors so I wanted to reach out!
I am young so I’m not sure my story will fully help in terms of fertility but I was diagnosed with PCOS at age 11 which is VERY young, and I am 24 now. I was in a clinical trial for PCOS when I was 11 and have learned so much along the way. I do have my own little blog which is more style and beauty based but for the first time a few weeks ago I shared an issue I had with my hair falling out due to PCOS and birth control.
You can read it here if you’d like:
I did see a fertility doctor in NYC when i was 21 because we were beginning to worry that I may have some issues because of the PCOS so I can only speak from the little knowledge I have from that. But for the past year I have been trying to heal my PCOS with a naturopathic doctor and I have learned so much that I really think can help others.
Best,
Olivia Sipler
