Tulsi, also known as Holy Basil, is an adaptogenic herb that has a ton of incredible benefits and is called the queen of herbs because of all the incredible effects it has on the body. It’s been harvested for use in Ayurvedic treatments for 5000 years for a range of ailments. Katherine has a nighttime ritual of drinking tea before bed to wind down and destress from the day. Lately, she has been loving the Rose Tulsi Tea from Organic India and has seen great stress reducing benefits as well as better sleep. Tulsi tea is made from the leaves of the holy basil/ tulsi plant and is not as sweet or pungent as regular basil.
Adaptogens are a type of herbs that help your body adapt to stress and holy basil is amongst our favorites.
Some of the benefits include:
Digestion:
Tulsi is amazing for digestion and stimulates stomach acids to help with elimination and bowel movements. It detoxifies the liver and bladder, reduces inflammation and helps balance the gut.
Lowers cortisol/ stress:
The active ingredient in tulsi is eugenol, it is known to affect cortisol levels in the body. By managing and reducing the levels of stress hormones, this tea can help prevent the side effects of chronic stress such as increased oxidative stress, unbalanced metabolic activity, chronic disease, and a weakened immune system.
Respiratory Issues:
Tulsi tea is excellent to help treat colds, cough or other illness that affects the respiratory system. The potent antioxidants found in tulsi help eliminate phlegm and mucus, where many pathogens can hide and develop. Furthermore, these antioxidants have strong anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, and antibacterial properties, helping you not only soothe the symptoms of the respiratory problem but also treat the underlying cause.
Sleep:
There are calming properties to tulsi tea, which can be helpful for people who have trouble sleeping. Very often, when your Circadian rhythms aren’t aligned, or when your body is experiencing a lot of stress, sleep can be a challenge. Having tulsi tea can stabilize your metabolic pathways and eliminate that stress, allowing you to have restful, uninterrupted sleep.
Anti-Inflammatory:
If you are suffering from arthritis, indigestion, headaches, fever, gout or any other inflammatory condition, tulsi tea can quickly relieve you of the discomfort. Drinking one cup at the beginning and end of the day can provide relief from different ailments, as well as chronic pain and joint disorders. Tulsi can also be taken in capsule form.
The benefits go on and on but this is one of the things we are loving lately and plan to keep incorporated in our daily routines. We have linked a few flavors and capsule format!
