Gluten Free Orange Honey Donut
Dessert? Always. These incredible gluten free orange honey donuts are a must-try!
Servings 12 donuts
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup of coconut oil
- 1/4 cup of orange juice freshly squeezed preferably
- 2/3 cup of unsweetened plant milk
- 2-4 tablespoons of orange zest* preferably from unwaxed oranges, or sub with 2 teaspoons of orange extract
- 8 tablespoons of honey
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- A pinch of salt
- 1 1/4 cups of almond flour
- 1 1/4 cups of gluten-free flour blend or regular flour if gluten isn't a concern
- 2 heaped teaspoons of baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda
For the optional syrup:
- 3 tablespoons of orange juice freshly squeezed or from a carton
- 3 tablespoons of honey or your chosen sweetener)
- Extra orange zest
Instructions
For the donuts:
- Preheat your oven to 350f
- Melt the coconut oil then add the orange juice to the same bowl, along with the almond milk, orange zest, honey, vanilla, salt, and ground almonds.
- Sift in the flour, baking powder, and baking soda.
- Mix everything thoroughly, and add a splash more milk if the mixture seems too dry.
- Transfer the mixture into donut molds in a donut pan.
- Bake in the oven for 12-15 minutes until the donuts have risen and a skewer inserted into them comes out clean.
For the syrup:
- While the donuts are baking, combine the orange juice and honey in a small bowl.
- Once the donuts are out of the oven, drizzle the syrup over them. It will soak in better while the donuts are still warm.
- Sprinkle with extra orange zest
