Food Combining: The Basics & The Rules

Food combining has been a hot topic in the health and wellness world lately, but this way of eating is nothing new.  Food combining has been around since the 1800’s and it has come in and out of “style” in the health world over the last 80 years. I remember being in my teens and my friend’s mother was following food combining based off of Suzanne Sommers diet.

  1. Could you mix starches + non starchy vegetables. Ex: tofu + quinoa + veggies
Or it’s best to pick one 1 item per category.

  2. Is it always necessary to wait about 3,4 hs btw fruit and another food group? For eks. If I eat fruit with the empty stomatch in the morbing, should I wait 3,4 hs to eat lunch or another food group?
    Thanks 🙂

  3. Hi KG! Thanks so much for this????
Two questions: Is butter considered a neutral? Also, is is safe to assume that collagen would be a “protein column” item? Mainly wondering because I buy a clean grain free granola that contains nuts/seeds/nut butter items, but it also includes butter & collagen???? Thx so much again!!

    1. Hey! For me Butter is still considered a protein because it does contain dairy protein. Ghee is neutral because it’s clarified and all dairy protein is removed. Collagen is definitely considered a protein, I will actually add this to the column. XO

  4. This is really helpful! 🙂 Only thing I don’t get is the tofu being considered a starche. It’s way higher in protein then it is in carbs so I’m confused lol?! Also if bananas are neutrals, can they be eaten as a desert after a meal with nut butter for exemple? Xx

  5. So if you eat fruit until noon, do you still exercise in the morning? I’m not sure what to do if I wanted to exercise in the morning because I would need to eat protein after a workout. What do you do?

  6. Wow so anything Coconut base ( coconut yogurt, coconut milk, coconut cream ) and banana can be eaten with anything AND at anytime ?!?!?! I love you KG !!!!

  7. Should we be concern/ aware of the “small amount” of protein in Coconut base products such as (coconut yogurt, coconut milk, etc etc). I ask because coconut is a neutral product.

  8. Hi, I am trying to understand this as much as I can because I want to try it! So, we pick one category from the chart does that mean we can have more than 1 protein? Example: eggs & cheese w/ leafy greens?
