There is no better summer accessory than clear, glowing skin! Summer is here and that means it’s time to make some swaps in the beauty department. In the winter our skin is dryer and needs more moisture and in summer we tend to get oiler, more breakouts and congestion. Here are a few things we suggest adding/ taking away during the warmer months.

SPF:

In case you missed the memo; SPF should be worn daily regardless of the season, to prevent premature aging, skin damage from uv rays and blue light from our phones, tablets and computers. However, we realize this isn’t something everyone feels is necessary all year round, so we are seriously encouraging you to apply a physical sunscreen daily as the last step in your skincare routine. There are tons of great ones on the market, here are a few of our Favourite SPFs. It’s also great to get one that has a little tint to it, this will give you some coverage and blur imperfections so you can eliminate the need for foundation. Don’t forget to reapply with a mineral based SPF powder like Color Science.

Double Cleanse:

This is one of KG’s clear skin secrets and can be especially helpful during the summer months when our skin is oilier and we are spending more time outdoors exposed to the elements. Doing an oil or balm cleanse will seriously help pull out the dirt, bacteria and unwanted oils from your skin that collect and eventually lead to breakouts. Remember, oil dissolves oil and if you are someone who deals with congestion and breakouts this is a must!

Follow your oil or balm cleanse with a great gel cleanser, we are loving the Josie Maran Pineapple Enzyme Cleanser. Using a gel cleanser with exfoliating properties can also reduce oil build up and future breakouts. This two-step system will also leave your pores smaller and skin looking nice and dewy.

Vitamin C is your BFF:

Sunshine is a lovely thing! It makes us happy, gives us a dose of vitamin D and a little suntan is always nice but the sun creates oxidative damage to the skin. To help combat oxidization caused by the sun and heat it’s important to incorporate a vitamin c serum into your routine. Preferably both morning and night if you are a sun worshiper and take lots of sun. This is really going to help reduce the long term damage you may be causing while also providing you with some collagen boosting, glow giving benefits.  Here are some of our Favourite Vitamin C Serums.

Skip the moisturizer in the AM:

This is a decision that we would base off of what you’re using in your routine, but you can probably skip your moisturizer, especially on the warmer days. For example, if you are cleansing, using a vitamin C serum and then SPF you may not need a moisturizer as well. Most of the SPF’s that we suggest are pretty hydrating. If you are on the drier side or feel you need the moisturizer, we suggest using a gel textured moisturizer. We are loving Korres Probiotic Gel Moisturizer for morning and nighttime use.

When it comes to makeup… Less is more!

We don’t know who needs to hear this but heavy makeup and foundation in direct sunlight almost never looks cute. Even if you are far from your skin goals and have imperfections that bother you, try to own them! Unfortunately, nothing hides from the sun and covering up with heavy makeup still looks like heavy makeup. Try to let your skin breathe by using natural makeup and concealer rather than foundation. Not only will it look better but it will also help heal your skin and probably clear up your skin too! We have tons of natural makeup suggestions here. 1. Hey girls!
I’m currently studying to be a Holistic Health Coach. Just read a chapter all about skin and came across a new discovery. Tried it. Loved it.
On a clean face, apply 100% organic cold pressed sesame oil.
Leave it on for 20 mins and rinse with warm water.
I did this before bed and woke up with the freshest and softness skin.
Will definitely implement it in my weekly routine!
Fact: sesame oil is the most compatible oil for skin – better than coconut oil!
